Meet the Talking Travel Team
Talking Travel Team

Move over all you fancy TV celebrities, the Talking Travel team are the real deal!

You’ll quickly notice that each Talking Travel episode features two presenters, but instead of just talking at you, our team take the time to explore travel holiday offers and discuss options in detail.  One presenter acts as host and customer advocate such as Keith Armitage. Keith is charged with getting the facts and asking all the pertinent  "real" questions you have. And he keeps asking till he gets the answers you need from one of our Travel Experts.

Travel Expert is not just a fancy title.  You’ll find that all our experts "real" travel professionals, each with their own extensive professional travel background and of course each with an absolute passion for quality travelling. Most are still actively employed within the travel industry, so they are up with the very latest in travel experiences. More importantly they cut through the jargon and marketing fluff and understand what really makes the difference between brand and product offers. They are strictly independent and will only feature in non-conflicting product episodes.

While you’re unlikely to find any of our guys and gals on the covers of a glossy TV gossip magazine, you will find they know and can talk a lot about travel.

As more episodes are produced our team will get bigger and you’ll be introduced to more members. Take some time to get to know a little about them from their brief bios listed below. If you have any questions about our team please send us a note via “contact us” and we’ll try and answer any of your queries’ as soon as possible.

Keith’s favourite hidden travel treasure?

I have to say that I love to travel and am lucky enough to have been able to work and holiday in a number of counties around the world from the seriouisly exotic to the classic family beach resort destination. For me it’s more about the type of travelling than the destination itself. And I always like to include a real people and culture discovery element. But Peter Allan had it right when he wrote; “No matter how far, or how wide I roam…” Well you get the idea, and I’d need to get my guitar to finish it off properly.

Trudy Ager

For Trudy, travel is literally a family affair, with both herself and her family enjoying a long career of over 20 years working with a number of major airlines groups.

You can’t do the sort of travel miles Trudy has done without picking up plenty of special tricks and tips in getting the most from your holiday. And working for Travel as a Mother of two boys aged 14 and 16 gives a unique understanding of family travel requirements as well as a connection with Retiree’s travel considerations having organized travel for elderly family members. Good theory is one thing; practical experience is where the real insights are gained.

Hayley Anderson

Hayley is a truly global traveller with an impressive working and personal destination checklist of over 80 countries. She has the stories, insights and 6 tattered passports to prove it. But far from slowing down, Hayley is speeding up and continues to try to redefine the concept of living out of a suitcase or backpack (depending on whether its work or pleasure) and has “travelling easy” down to a fine art. Hayley is happy to acknowledge that travelling has taken a considerable amount of her life, but won’t be making any excuses about being able to live and work her passion every day. Hayley is currently working as a tour director for a major international operator and brings a very pragmatic and “on the road” honesty to her travel product knowledge.

Hayley’s favourite hidden travel treasure?

Madagascar! A place where exotic lemurs leap through forest canopies and leisurely canal trips, end at remote fishing villages. Where mist enshrouded mountain villages beckon, and old world ‘piroques’, with ragged sails, whisk you along a fascinating coast to white sand beaches dotted with small cafes - serving lobster straight from the sea. Towns with an architectural mix of colonial French, mid European and a touch of the Central Americas. In Madagascar, it is its people, poor or otherwise, with their unnerving friendliness, a generosity of spirit, a gracious hospitality and an uncompromised dignity ,that dictate its character, make you unconditionally welcome and give the country its life.

Holly Biggs

For Holly, working within the Tourism Industry is the way of her life more than it is a career. She has always held the hearty soul of her African motherland as an inspiration for her sense of adventure and discovery, so it’s little wonder that an especially vibrant and diverse territory like Hong Kong should capture her attentions out of the amazing destinations and experiences she has enjoyed.

But, home is where her heart is. And that’s Australia which Holly quickly concedes is a beautiful home to return to, and to explore in itself. Be it road trips, childhood camping holidays or beach resorts for endless sun and swimming. Holly is keen to share her experience and insights to help other travellers find holiday solutions that can build special life long memories, so we are looking forward to seeing more of her shortly.

Holly’s favourite travel destination?. For me it’s definitely South Africa. How could I put into words this big-hearted country? Is it the huge smiles shining at me from the faces of the children in Soweto, near Johannesburg. Or the welcoming dances of the colourful Ndebele tribe, with the rings stretched around their elongated necks. The hearty African soul food, the feeling you get looking over the Coasts of Cape Town, wondering how a country that has been through so very much, could still be so warm and inviting. Maybe it was the friends that I made, that I will have for life. It’s always the place that I will return to.

Leeane Brush

Leeanes taste for travel started when she was working in entertainment and as a tour guide on the fabulous Whitsunday Islands. After three years of showing visitors from all over the world the wonderful sites of the Barrier Reef she got a taste for travel and worked across a diverse number of different travel product and service providers, including Airlines and Travel Agent distributors. "Travelling is in my blood", say's Leeane, once I unpack from one trip, I am ready to go again. I love the tropical and exotic destinations such as Hawaii, The Maldives or South Pacific, and of course who can top Vegas and New York for sheer glamour.” But in saying that we know Leeane doesn't mind roughing it in those out of the way, interesting destinations such as China or Vietnam. These are the types of places that find you doing things that you just never thought you would ever do; Like swim with sharks in Hawaii, which was an amazing experience considering her fear of the deep blue ocean. So amazing that she now has a dive licence! Which just goes to show the life changing influence of great travel experiences.

Roger’s favourite hidden travel treasure?

Am I able to say "the world" here? This is always one of the most difficult questions to answer, what is my favourite hidden treasure? Our favourite treasures are normally those that have our most wonderful memories, and there's plenty of those for me. South Africa would be amongst my favourite. Johannesburg, Cape Town, and the Garden Route in between. My hidden treasure there are the private game lodges and reserves connected to Kuger National Park, specifically Richard Branson's lodge Ulusaba. The wildlife viewing is spectacular!

Emma Lovell

You don't have to spend a long time with Emma to see her passion for travel. She spent two years travelling the world as Pommy backpacker - Australia was not intended as her final destination, but it stole her heart and she made Sydney her home over a decade ago. She has since spent many years as a tour guide throughout Oz and even led our tourists over the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a climb leader. She has also utilised her extensive teaching and management background to train other travel industry colleaugues some of the finer points of hospitality and tourism. Can you still catch a hint of her English accent? She's got great "on the ground knowledge" of her homeland which is an Australian destination favourite, so we're sure to be getting the inside info on the UK and Europe.

Emma’s favourite hidden travel treasure?

Mmmmm, this is a hard one as there are so many and I treasure them all. Arriving at my final destination in LA after having walked 30 kms a day for 20 days from the border of Mexico felt pretty good! Seeing ice glaciers float past my tent whilst hiking in the Patagonian Andes and catching my first glimpse of Machu Pichu during the inca trail is up there in the memory bank. However, perhaps the most treasured travel memory of all, is sitting on the edge of the Calderra in Santorini sipping on fine wine and watching the sunset with my new husband.

David’s favourite hidden travel treasure?

David’s favourite hidden travel treasure? The coast resort area of The Algarve in southern Portugal is a particular favourite. The Algarve is filled with a great range of places to stay, from 5 star resorts to 4 bedroom villas for rent. Fantastic beaches, an international flair with a strong sense of local identity. The residents are friendly and the experience is one not to be missed. Plus the local cuisine is sensational. Stay a week or two. You will come back home refreshed and relaxed…

Mandy originally hails from Sydney but started her travel career in New Zealand where she worked as a travel consultant and agency manager for a number of years.  While her career has since diversified into broader, more executive based roles, she is quick to admit that she still thrives on being able to connect customers to truly delightful travel experiences.  In addition to her love of travel she has an almost equal passion for the benefits of living a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle. With what almost seems a limitless amount of energy Mandy also teaches yoga and delights in combining her passions by travelling to yoga retreats in exotic locations. There are not a lot of places left on the globe that Mandy hasn’t been to, but despite these experiences Mandy recognises the people part of travelling as the most important, so it’s not surprising that her pick of best travel experiences is dominated by any holiday she has had with her wonderful daughter.

Mandy’s favourite hidden travel treasure?

One of my most special and memorable experiences was floating down the Nile on a felucca with my daughter. The entire trip was filled with special moments, watching the sunset as you were pulling up for the night, stopping to explore temples slightly off the beaten track and free of hordes of tourists, and enjoying wonderful local food. It was basic and without any ‘mod-cons’ or luxuries but a beautiful experience all the same.
